| LOCO XPRESSO: Lightweight Cushioned Trainer, 291 grams, 10.3 oz.
The Xpresso is a very light weight flexible training shoe that delivers responsive cushioning. Engineered for bio-mechanically efficient runner's looking for a high performance training shoe that offers excellent overall performance.
- Anatomical last: At Loco our last is anatomically contoured to fit the foot precisely. With a more rounded heel and sculpted arch the shoe will support the foot and enhance comfort.
- Slip lasted: The Xpresso is a fully slip lased construction for maximum cushioning and flexibility throughout the shoe. Slip lasting is the lightest weight construction.
- Upper design: The upper of the Xpresso is designed to be lightweight, flexible and comfortable by utilizing only the necessary amount of synthetic for structural support at the heel and forefoot. The top line collar is soft and padded for comfort.
- Sockliner: For lightweight the Xpresso utilizes a molded Elon sockliner. Elon is a high bred EVA that's more durable to resist compression set and maintain it's cushioning properties longer while being a lightweight compound.
- Upper materials: Air Mesh, High Density Synthetic, 3M Reflective.
- The entire vamp and forefoot of the Xpresso is constructed with state of the art air mesh. A tri layer material woven in one process, air mesh eliminates the need for cementing the layers together thus significantly improving breathability and comfort.
- The synthetic leather trim is an ultra thin (0.9mm.), lightweight, soft and breathable synthetic that's extremely durable for everyday running. The High Density NW Backer is a high quality construction substrate.
- 3M Scotchlite for safety: As every Loco running shoe, the upper of the Xpresso incorporates genuine 3M Scotchlite around the heel, along the tip and the top of the tongue for 360 degree reflectivity for night time visibility. More 3M than you'll find on just about any running shoe, if at all for this price.
- Laces: Yes fat laces. Back to functionality. Flat laces are easier to tie and stay tied. Round and oval laces that look cool become loose.
- Midsole: The Xpresso midsole is comprised of a high quality compression molded EVA compound that maintains it's cushioning and compression resistance longer than typical EVA. Soft yet durable to maintain it's cushioning properties for miles and miles.
- Medial post: For enhanced support, the Xpresso has a moderate size medial post positioned under the ankle. Molded from a higher durometer EVA the medial post will support the ankle upon the heel strike phase of the gait cycle.
- Polyurethane heel and forefoot pads: Strategically positioned to cushion and increase durability where the highest impact forces are. Polyurethane is a compound that absorbs shock better than typical midsole foams and is virtually compression resistant. The highest impact forces are at heel strike and forefoot under the metatarsal heads which is where we've positioned the pads for cushioning and durability.
- Midfoot arch shank: The midfoot arch is supported with a co-molded shank to increase stability while improving tortional rigidity, preventing the shoe from improperly flexing in the midfoot arch. For added support the shank wraps the sidewall of the midsole.
- Outsole: The outsole is a compression molded carbon rubber with an NBS 1000 compound that's extremely durable. The heel is recessed to maintain the foot over the central axis of the midsole for stability. The forefoot is designed with lugs for traction on multi terrains. Finally, the heel pad is asymmetrical to the lateral side for a smooth heel strike enhancing heel to forefoot roll.
EVA is a copolymer or cross-linked foam made of ethylene and vinyl acetate. It is made up of hundreds of thousands of foam cells that contain air or gas. When you land on EVA foam you compress this EVA and the gas gets pushed out and then sucked back in again. Over time these cells don't rebound so well and don't take as much air back in. To compensate for this issue, a great majority of good running shoes use a compression molded EVA midsole. By compressing EVA in a pressurized mold the midsole forms a thick skin which helps the EVA last longer. It also provides structural rigidity to the midsole.
